Hi,
It is obvious the problem lies with Chrome and Firefox since you were able to upload with MS Edge. Contact Chrome and Firefox Support for assistance.

"it is obvious the problem lies with chrome and firefox""?? are you serious??
why does MS always seem to try and 'pass the buck'? i had several issues with onedrive and was advised not once, not twice, but three separate times--since the problem reoccurred three times--that i needed to reinstall the OS--instead of finding a real solution. i have since discovered the solution myself, no thanks to microsoft.
irrespective of this, the fact that the problem does not exist on the OS's built-in, 'preferred' browser is no surprise.
this almost seems like a ploy to get people to use edge. i prefer not to.
so, in response to your statement, i have not updated chrome in quite a while, since i rarely use it, and also reinstalled the firefox version i had before upgrading to 64 bit. in addition, the only time i have used chrome in months was to check if the problem ran across all browsers.
so, please, if you will, explain in detail WHY "it is obvious the problem lies with chrome and firefox".
then i might be able to understand your statement.
as of now, i believe that update might have been the problem, but that's just my feeling.
in any case, i would like to know why the update would not uninstall...
thanks.

how does the problem lie with chrome and firefox when NEITHER OF THEM HAVE BEEN CHANGED? i do not allow automatic updates to programs.
THAT is what i do not understand about this 'logic'.
the update i suspect is KB4015217.
there is no option to uninstall this 'cumulative update'.
the problems i have been having with facebook started after this update.
thanks.

Please don't type using all caps. It is hard to read and considered rude/shouting. Please be considerate of our visually impaired members. Thank you.
Windows was updated, Facebook may have been updated and Chrome, Firefox may need an update to catch up. Have you tried setting either to default settings?
KB4015217 - This is the documentation on improvements and fixes.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4015217/windows-10-update-kb4015217
Are you attempting to uninstall the update through control panel or Settings > Windows Update?
Have you considered performing a System Restore to a date/time before the update was installed?

sorry about the 'shouting'. i totally forgot there were italics available in these posts. the capitalization was meant as an emphasis.
so, tried system restore and every restore point failed, due to a problem with app staging. tried a reset, which failed each time i tried. something to do with active directory. couldn[t screenshot that as the PC was not started.
now, all restore points are gone. issue is still present.
i am really not in the mood to do a clean install.
i did dowload the .csv of all files included in 4015217, but that is really no help. the link provided did not include any option to remove the update. MS claims "no known issues".
i am gobsmacked. no idea how to proceed without reinstalling OS.
thank you for your replies.

Method 1: Re-register Windows Apps
Start > Type PowerShell > Right click PowerShell > Select Run As Administrator
Type or copy/paste the following command into the Window then Press Enter.
Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Disregard errors in red. When command finishes executing, reboot the computer and retry uploading the photos.
Method 2:
Troubleshooting Component Store/System Files Corruption
Run SFC /scannow first, Dism.exe, second then Sfc /scannow again

i decided to do an in-place upgrade.
it solved the problem.
thanks for the advice--i wish i would have seen your suggestions, though i had already tried 'solution #2', to no avail.
i would have tried the first one, i guess, but what do windows apps have to do with browsers, i wonder.
thanks for the help.

Microsoft Edge is an app
Internet Explorer is an app
In the past you installed or uninstalled Internet Explorer. All browsers are apps used for rendering web pages.Without a browser app - you wouldn't see anything.

thanks for the info.
guess i will try your suggestions now, as the problem has returned....
thanks.
update--tried your suggestions.
neither worked.
(note--the in-place upgrade failed initially--after renaming $WINDOWS.~BT, it succeeded.
why would my original issue stop and then start again??
windows just puzzles me...
